The Commonwealth Games medalist defeated local boy Michael Fariman 21-7, 21-14 in his first qualifier, in what turned out to be a one-sided game. His second opponent Jiann Shiarng Chiang, whom he had defeated at the Bulgarian International last year, posed a slightly tougher challenge than Fariman. However, Gurusaidutt once again grabbed a comfortable 21-16, 21-12 win in a match which last just 30 minutes.
Gurusaidutt will face an uphill task in the first round though, when the World No. 89 takes on World No. 13 Hu Yun on Wednesday. However, he will take heart from the fact that he came out on top of the veteran, when they last faced each other back in 2013 at the Denmark Open.
Tanvi Lad, PV Sindhu, Sameer Verma and Srikanth Kidambi will also be in action on Wednesday in their respective first round clashes.
