Records and numbers from the WI tour : Kohli’s maiden double & Ashwin’s third ton against Windies

After breaking a plethora of records on the first day, Indian skipper Virat Kohli continued his record-breaking run and made his maiden first-class double hundred. Ravichandran Ashwin also went past the three-figure mark for the third time in his career. A look at the key stats.

1 – Virat Kohli became the first Indian captain to score a double century in an away Test. The previous best score by an Indian skipper was 192 by Mohammad Azharuddin against New Zealand in Auckland in 1989-90.

3 – Kohli also became the third overseas captain to register a double hundred in the Tests in West Indies. A first in more than 50 years.

7 – Virat Kohli is the seventh Test batsman to be dismissed on an exact 200. The other seven are: W Hammond, Mohsin Khan, D Boon, S Waugh, G Smith, Mushfiqur Rahim.

197 – was Kohli’s highest first-class score before the double hundred in Antigua. He scored it for Delhi in a match against Pakistan's Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited in 2008-09 at the Feroz Shah Kotla.

169 – was Kohli’s highest Test score before the double hundred in Antigua. He scored it against Australia at the MCG in 2014.

2013 – was the last time an Indian batsman scored a double century in Tests. The last was 204 by Cheteshwar Pujara against Australia in Hyderabad.

2006 – was the last time an Indian batsman scored a double century in Tests outside Asia. It was 212 by Wasim Jaffer against West Indies at St. John’s.

12,000 – Virat Kohli became the 51st batsman and 8th Indian to make 12,000 runs in International cricket.

2 – Number of players with three Test centuries at No.6 or lower against West Indies – Kapil Dev and R Ashwin.

8 – R Ashwin became the eighth Indian to score three centuries against West Indies on Friday. The others to do so are : P Umrigar, C Borde, D Sardesai, M Amarnath, Kapil Dev, NS Sidhu, Sachin Tendulkar

566 for 8 – is India’s second-highest score in West Indies. Their highest is 588 for 8 in Gros Islet in 2006.

2 – Number of instances a team having fifty-plus partnerships for each wicket from second to seventh in an innings. The only team to do the same before was Sri Lanka against India at Colombo in 2008-09.
