In a strange incident during the first T20 match between Australia and Sri Lanka on Friday, umpires stopped play momentarily to check the pockets of Sri Lanka pacer Lasith Malinga.
During the 17th over of the Australian innings, the speedster was getting back to his walking mark, when umpire Mick Mattlee approached him and asked him what was inside his pocket. After every previous ball, Malinga had kept placing his hand in his pocket. Malinga took out the hand warmer he had in his pocket and showed it to the umpire.
"He normally has a hand warmer in pocket as it's a little bit cold here at the MCG at night,' Clarke said during the coverage. "He's just got one warmer in there to keep the fingers warm for the way he releases the ball."
And for those wondering, yes, it is completely legal.
