Shane Warne claims BCCI can't afford him as coach

“I am very expensive, I don’t think they can afford me. Virat Kohli and me can have a good partnership, but as I said, I am very, very expensive,” Warne was quoted as saying by Mid-Day.

The former Australian leg-spinner has shown no interest in the position of the Indian head coach. The 47-year old had earlier mentored the Rajasthan Royals for a span of 3 years between 2008 and 2011 after having captained them in the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League.

Shane Warne is currently a part of the Start Sports panel that is covering the ICC Champions Trophy in England. He was clicked napping by Virender Sehwag during one of the numerous rain interruptions in the India vs Pakistan match which the former won by a colossal margin of 124 runs. 

The names of the main contenders for the post doing rounds are the current head coach Anil Kumble, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag, Aussie paceman and Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody, Englishman Richard Pybus and former Indian cricketer Dodda Ganesh and domestic cricket legend Lalchand Rajput. Craig McDermott, former Australian bowler lost out on the race as his application arrived a day late of the deadline that was 31st May.
