RCB have been informed about Rahul’s injury and were prepared for his enforced absence. Rahul had hurt his shoulder during the first Test against Australia in Pune and played the remainder of the series with pain. Despite his injury, he was one of India’s most consistent players in the series, scoring six half-centuries in seven innings. Fittingly, he even hit the winning runs in the final Test in Dharamsala to seal a 2-1 series win victory.
After striking two match-winning half-centuries in the second Test, Rahul mentioned how his shoulder had prevented him from playing extravagant strokes.
Rahul’s injury which comes hot on the heels of Kohli’s confirmed absence from the “first few” weeks of the IPL is certainly a body blow for last season’s runners-up. Rahul was RCB’s third highest run-scorer in 2016, with 397 runs in 12 innings, behind AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli. And Harsha Bhogle’s sympathized with their loss when he tweeted-
Oh dear , on the heels of losing for a while, now the reported absence of due to surgery. This will hurt.
