Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has heaped huge praise on India’s man of the moment, Kuldeep Yadav, and has stated that his best is yet to come. The 68-year-old also stressed on the importance of the partnership between Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, which has kept Australians at bay so far.

India’s batting legend Sunil Gavaskar believes that the best of Kuldeep Yadav is yet to be seen by the country. The 22-year-old has played very few international matches for the Men in Blues so far and is already looking like a promising prospect for the side.

India’s youngest spin prodigy at the moment, Yadav, hogged all the limelight following his masterclass at the Eden Gardens in the second ODI on Thursday, when he became only the third Indian bowler to claim a hat-trick in One-Day Internationals (ODI), after Chetan Sharma and Kapil Dev.

Admiring his talent, Gavaskar told NDTV, “The best of Kuldeep Yadav is yet to come. He has hardly played any international cricket, be it Test matches or limited overs cricket.  What we are seeing are early signs of Kuldeep becoming one of India's most wicket-taking bowlers."

The 68-year-old was also delighted by the brilliant on-pitch coordination and understanding of Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, who have now scalped 10 wickets in India’s first two ODIs against Australia.

“They are taking delight in each other’s success. He and Chahal were exchanging notes on the batsmen and how the pitch is doing. They were discussing how they should bowl, in what line, and which kind of delivery. Having a bowling partnership is equally important as a batting partnership and this duo can take India to greater heights.”

What made Yadav’s achievement all the more special was the tough conditions. The 22-year-old revealed after the match that the moisture didn’t help his grip very well.

“There wasn’t much on the pitch in terms of spin and bounce and the way he made a comeback after getting hit for sixes by Glenn Maxwell… He certainly deserves a lot more credit.”
