WATCH | Cheteshwar Pujara forces KL Rahul to take an unnecessary review

Chris Woakes was at his brilliant self when he trapped KL Rahul in front as the ball seamed back into the right-hander making it an easy decision for the umpire. However, an unnecessary interference by Cheteshwar Pujara cost India a review as the replays showed that the ball seemed to hit directly.

Woakes started-off really well as he gave England the much-needed breakthrough after bagging Shikhar Dhawan’s wicket in the 19th over. The 21st over was nothing different as the English seamer showed consistency with his line and lengths in the first five balls before trapping Rahul with a brilliant delivery.

Rahul had no answer to the seaming delivery and started to walk off after being given out by the umpire. However, non-striker Pujara did not seem convinced with the decision and called Rahul back insisting him to take a review. On the other hand, Rahul claimed that he did not hit the ball with the bat and felt that the cherry was going on to hit the stumps. In the end, it turned out to be a waste of a review as the screen displayed three reds (impact in-line, pitching outside off and hitting the wickets) and the opener had to walk back to the pavilion after scoring 23 of 53 balls.
