India vs South Africa | Injured Dale Steyn ruled out of the series

Steyn appeared to have found his rhythm as he managed figures of 2 for 51 with important wickets of opener Shikhar Dhawan and wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha during his comeback Test. But he left the field when three balls left into his 18th over as he felt a pain on his left heel.

South African team doctor Mohammed Moosajee confirmed that for full recovery from the injury the pacer will take at least 4-6 weeks and it means he effectively rules out of the ongoing Test series against the visiting Indian team.

"He has done significant damage to the underside of his foot which is likely to take 4-6 weeks to recover. We will consult a leading ankle specialist for tomorrow and see what can be done," Moosajee said. 

The 34-year-old cricketer’s career has been plagued by injuries and after a lengthy absence from the international circuit as he broke a bone in his shoulder during the Perth Test in November 2016, found a place in the playing XI against India in the first Test of the series. But again it seemed that he has to wait for a long to play a full game of cricket. 

Now, the team management will be hoping that the prime pacer fully recovers by the time the South African squad is announced for the Australia series.
