The BCCI authorities will meet at the scheduled Special General Meeting on Friday in Delhi and confirm the CoA’s decision to ratify player contracts for the 2017-18 season as was announced in March. The BCCI introduced the new A+ grade which will hand players contracts worth Rs. 7 crores.

The tussle for power between the Board of Control for Cricket in Indian and the Committee of Administrators has caused some concern to the fans off late. The CoA had announced that there will be an upgrade on the pre-existing contracts on international and domestic cricketers back in March but the BCCI has not given any confirmation on the same.

However, the situation surrounding the players’ contracts is set to be resolved this coming weekend when the BCCI will meet for a Special General Meeting in Delhi. A CricketNext report revealed that deciding on the contracts of the international players, domestic players, and match officials is listed on the top of the agenda for the meeting as per the mail sent out to member associations.

On being questioned about the delay in approval of player contracts, a senior BCCI official said that well being of the players is the priority, but there are certain protocols that need to be followed on the same.

“The players are undoubtedly the priority of the board. But, you have to realise that there are certain protocols that need to be followed and decisions need ratifications and that is why this delay,” the BCCI official told CricketNext.

The BCCI introduced a new grade system this year which included a Grade A+ which would hand the players Rs 7 Cr. Apart from that, there is the normal Grade A: Rs 5 Cr, Grade B: Rs 3 Cr and Grade C: Rs 1 Cr. Before this season, Grade A players used to get Rs 2 Cr while Grade B and C cricketers received Rs 1 Cr and Rs 50 Lakh respectively.

Five players stand to receive Rs 7 Cr annually from the BCCI as they have been placed in the A+ grade - Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah.
