India vs Windies | Stuart Law credits batsmen for “forcing” Indian changes

Windies coach Stuart Law believes that his side's effort at Vizag has forced the Indian management into recalling Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar back to the side. In absence of the first choice pacers, India struggled to make any considerable impact on the flat pitches in the series.

The front-line seamers Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav, after making a mark in the Tests, struggled to keep up in the ODIs and allowed the Windies batsmen to not just settle but score freely as well. Although it was only a matter of time that Bhuvaneshwar and Bumrah came back to the side, Law considers it a mental one-upmanship that his batsmen were able to coerce the change in the opposition.

“Yeah, I would like to think so. That’s probably the reason why they’ve (India) called back their two most experienced one-day bowlers. To our credit, we haven’t shied away from it,” Law said on Friday speaking on the return of the first choice bowlers.

“So yeah, hopefully we are getting the Indians to ask questions to themselves. They are giving us plenty of questions to ask ourselves but at this stage, we are coming up with pretty good answers.”

He was no different from the rest of the world when talking about Virat Kohli’s incredible performance and praised his way of “compiling innings. Law did also acknowledge the performances put on by his side’s batsmen, mainly Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer, the two batsmen who have faced both the Indian spinners and seamers with equal ease.

“Hetmyer has been outstanding. Hope got a hundred in the second game, all in all for an inexperienced side, that we have, they can hold their heads very high,” said Law.
