In what comes as a potential blow for Pakistan Cricket, reports have stated that overseas cricketers are skeptical of playing the entirety of the upcoming season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in Pakistan, due to security reasons. It was earlier announced that all matches of PSL 2020 would be played in Pakistan, but as things stand, it might very well be shifted away from the country.
It is also reported that franchise owners want to hold half a season of the fifth edition of the PSL in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), fearing it won't be feasible to hold the entire tournament in Pakistan.
“I took the approval of PCB’s Patron-in-Chief regarding holding entire HBL PSL in Pakistan, after consulting with all the franchise owners. I have invited team owners for a meeting next week on Monday in Lahore, where this matter would be discussed again,” PCB chairman Ehsan Mani was quoted as saying by Daily Express, reported Cricket Pakistan.
“Till now, no franchise has shown any reservations, so there is no possibility of shifting the matches anywhere else,” he added.
The 2019 edition of the PSL saw the play-off matches being played in Pakistan, which saw several overseas players participate, with Quetta Gladiators emerging as champions.
