The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that Cricket Australia (CA) will send its national team for a three-match Test series to Pakistan in 2022. CEO Wasim Khan also said that the national board is in contact with Afghanistan, Ireland, and South Africa with regard to possible future series.

With a two-match series against Sri Lanka just around the corner, the national board is already trying to convince other major Test-playing nations to tour Pakistan as well. And Australia, who has not toured Pakistan since 1998, has come to a principal agreement for a three-match series in two year’s time, with possible series’ against the likes of Afghanistan, Ireland, and South Africa also lined up.

"Cricket Australia has agreed in principle to play three Tests in Pakistan's home series. Obviously, we are doing everything to ensure Australia agrees to play in Pakistan in 2022 and it is an ongoing process," Khan told PTI.

The PCB official lamented over the fact that Pakistan’s stature in Test cricket taking a major dip owing to the lack of importance given to the format in the existing Future Tours Program.

"It is unfortunate that we are among those countries who play the least number of Test matches in a season. Whereas other leading nations play 8 to 14 Tests in a year we don't even get six to seven," he said.

Khan further added that the board is waiting on the ICC to approve their series against Bangladesh as part of the ICC Test Championship and guaranteed top-level security when their neighbours visit in January.

"We have sent the itinerary and are awaiting a response. After Sri Lanka's arrival to play the two Tests we don't foresee any problems in the Bangladesh board agreeing to send their team in January," Khan added.
