ICC World Cup 2019 | Teams are worried about facing India, claims Kris Srikkanth

India thoroughly outplayed arch-rivals Pakistan in Sunday's game at Old Trafford as the former registered an 89-run win via the DLS method to jump to third place in the World Cup table ahead of hosts England. The Virat Kohli-led India were superior in all departments as Rohit Sharma led from the very front with a fast-paced 140 in the first innings. 

Former India international Srikkanth heaped praise on the Indian playing XI as he claimed that the majority of top teams in the tournament will be scared to play the Men in Blue. 

“This is starting to feel a little like the West Indian teams of the 1970s, where the opposition would start the game with a psychological disadvantage. Teams are worried about facing India and how they will cope with them, which immediately puts them on the back foot,” Srikkanth wrote in his column for the ICC.

While hitman Rohit Sharma made a match-winning 140, Srikkanth felt KL Rahul’s knock of 57 was more significant especially after the injury suffered by first-choice opener Shikhar Dhawan. 

“Everyone knows how good a batsman Rohit Sharma is but for me the more important innings against Pakistan was from KL Rahul. Going into the game, the biggest question mark about this India team was how they would cope without Shikhar Dhawan. 

“The fact the top three all got runs, that Sharma and Rahul put on more than a hundred for the first wicket and that Virat Kohli got more runs, is huge for India going forward in the tournament,” Srikkanth added.
