IND vs BAN | India’s bowlers understand that individuals will not win it, says Ravi Shastri

Ravi Shastri reckons the success of India’s bowling attack is down to the fact that they understand that only a combined effort will eventually win it for the country. India’s first-ever Day-Night Test, against Bangladesh, at the Eden Gardens saw their trio of fast bowlers take all the wickets.

The lethal, and increasingly feared, Indian pace attack helped India crush Bangladesh by an innings and 46 runs in the historic day-night Test to record a 12th home series win on the trot. Ishant Sharma (9/78), Umesh Yadav (8/82) and Mohammed Shami (2/78) ensured that the spinners were left without a wicket at home for the first time in history.

“They’ve been together for some time and they know there’s no shortcut. Individuals will not win it and they know it. The discipline and the hunger to win (is there). They understand how important it is to support one another and bowl as a unit. They know they are arguably the best side in the world,” Shastri told PTI post-match.

Bowling coach Bharat Arun too was effusive in his praise for the Indian pacers but noted that their next assignment, away to New Zealand, will prove to be a challenge.

“They do hunt as a pack and they do take pride in others’ performances and that’s the real secret behind this pack (of fast bowlers). That’s what has given them all the success. We’re an experienced bowling attack and the beauty of the attack is how quickly they adapt to situations. I thought they adapted well to the pink ball. New Zealand will be a good challenge and we’re looking forward to it,” Arun said.
