Shantha Rangaswamy has filed her nomination for the Indian Cricketers' Association election (ICA), after recently being elected as a Managing Committee member of the KSCA. The former Indian women’s team captain will contest for the post of female ICA Representative Nominee to the BCCI Apex Council.

Just last week, Rangaswamy resigned from her position in the three-member Cricket Advisory Committee and as the Director of the ICA. The dual resignation came hours after being served a Conflict of Interest notice by BCCI’s Ethics Officer, Justice (Retired) D.K. Jain for charges levelled by Sanjeev Gupta, a lifetime member of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association.

If elected to the Apex Council, Rangaswamy will have to resign from her position at the Karnataka State Cricket Association as she would be in direct violation of BCCI’s one-person-one-post rule.

"Personally, I will be a bit sad if I have to leave the KSCA as it is my state association. But I thought of trying at the apex council so that we can do more for the game, we can do a lot more for the players, especially the women cricketers. That's the reason behind filing the nomination," Rangaswamy told Sportstar on Friday.

"It is a good idea to have a player representative in the BCCI as various concerns of the player can be addressed in a better way. The welfare of the players and the game, the technical aspect can be taken care of if the players representatives are on the board," she added.

The online voting process for the Apex Council will be held between October 11-13, with the results to be declared by 12 pm on the 15th and the ICA board meeting to be held the day after.
