Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Karnataka agree to hold elections by CoA’s deadline

As per the Committee of Administrator’s directive that requires state units to amend their respective constitutions and hold elections by the 28th of September, the state cricket associations of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Karnataka have decided to comply with the same. The deadline had been extended last week after having been initially set for the 12th of September.

“Lot of associations sought clarifications and they have been provided. Chhattisgarh, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh came to us today and their concerns have been addressed,” said COA chief Vinod Rai after a meeting, reported Indian Express.

This leaves only Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh among the 38 units across the country who are yet to state compliance with the Supreme-Court appointed CoA’s directive.

“None from Haryana and Tamil Nadu has come to us,” said Rai.

The states had submitted Interim Applications to the apex court to cite their grievances which are yet to be addressed. This has led to instances such as former Chairman of State Law Commission of Maharashtra DN Choudhari rejecting Mumbai Cricket Association’s (MCA) request to be appointed an electoral officer for its upcoming elections. He had stated that going ahead with the elections will be a disregard to the Supreme Court order of July 5, 2018.

“It is totally incorrect. If that is the case, how are 30 states conducting the elections? That stay order was of July last year,” Rai argued.

The BCCI elections are scheduled for October 22 by when it was expected all the state units will already have their own membership and constitutions sorted out. Rai has affirmed that the process is still going ahead as planned.

“There is no doubt about that,” he signed off.
