Nothing disappoints a crowd more than their favorite hero getting out cheaply in front of a packed stadium. Chennai Super Kings?skipper MS Dhoni had a forgettable time with the bat as he returned as the skipper of the franchise after two years and was out scoring just one run in four deliveries.

‌The Chepauk crowd erupted as MS Dhoni walked out for the toss, but he lost it to Ajinkya Rahane, who chose to field first—a move that paid off immediately. CSK lost both openers, Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra, inside the powerplay, and although Vijay Shankar and Rahul Tripathi tried to rebuild, regular wickets from Varun Chakaravarthy, Sunil Narine, and others left the team struggling at 72/7 by the 15th over. With hopes fading and the top and middle order back in the pavilion, the crowd finally found some joy as Dhoni came out to bat at number nine, offering a brief spark in an otherwise bleak innings. However, the cheer was short-lived as Dhoni faced a hard time at the crease.

On the third ball of the 16th over, Narine dished a looping off-break that landed around off stump and spun back in. The 43-year-old stepped across the crease and aimed to glance it with the turn toward the leg side, but failed to connect on the inside edge. Umpire Chris Gaffaney raised his finger without hesitation, and Dhoni opted for the review straightaway. Moments later, the replays showed a faint spike on UltraEdge as the ball passed the bat, but a noticeable gap confirmed there was no contact. The third umpire examined the split screen and ruled out any edge, and moved to ball-tracking, which showed all three reds. A hush swept through Chepauk as Dhoni trudged back for just one. Fans on Twitter were left stunned by his underwhelming return as captain and flooded the platform with reactions.
