New Zealand's destructive opening batter Finn Allen has sustained a foot injury while playing for the San Francisco Unicorns in the Major League Cricket (MLC). The 26-year-old power-hitter is set to miss the MLC playoffs and the T20I tri-series in Zimbabwe, beginning on July 16.

‌The San Francisco Unicorns and the New Zealand team have suffered a big blow as destructive opening batter Finn Allen has been ruled out of the Major League Cricket 2025 playoffs and the T20I tri-series in Zimbabwe due to a foot injury he suffered while representing the Unicorns in the franchise league.

While the Blackcaps will be naming his replacement in the squad for the upcoming series, the Unicorns have decided not to name a replacement for the star batter. Allen played his last game against the LA Knight Riders (LAKR) in Florida, where he was dismissed for four runs while chasing a mammoth target of 244. New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has released a statement surrounding his injury and recovery details.

"Allen’s recovery timeline will be determined once he has returned to New Zealand and received further specialist consultations," the NZC stated.

The Tri Series in Zimbabwe will begin on July 14, which, along with the Chevrons and the Kiwis, will also feature South Africa. The Mitchell Santner-led side will be arriving at Harare on July 16 ahead of their opening game against the Proteas. The San Francisco Unicorns, on the other hand, will be playing their upcoming eliminator game in the MLC against inaugural champions MI New York (MINY).

New Zealand squad for Zimbabwe T20I tri series: Mitchell Santner (c), Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Jacob Duffy, Zak Foulkes, Matt Henry, Bevon Jacobs, Adam Milne, Daryl Mitchell, Will O’Rourke, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Tim Seifert, Ish Sodhi.
