England openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley looked out of sorts as they started cautiously on a surprising surface that had variable bounce and carry. With some balls falling short of keeper Rishabh Pant and some flying into his gloves, the pair did well to negotiate the new-ball trio of Bumrah, Akash Deep, and Siraj.
With the score reading 39/0 after 13 overs, the Indian skipper decided the surprise the pair as he introduced medium-pacer Nitish Kumar Reddy in place of Jasprit Bumrah. The all-rounder, after being hit for a four off the second ball, came back in style to get Duckett to edge one down the leg with Pant making no mistake.
And he was not done yet, coming up with a jaffa in the last ball of the same over to end Zak Crawley’s struggling innings of 18 off 43 balls. The ball, after angling in and pitching on a length around off-stump, straightened and swung away late to catch Crawley by surprise as England were reduced to 44/2.
Twitter was in awe of Nitish as he made a dream start at Lord’s, ending with a double strike in his first over at the hallowed venue and repaid Gill’s faith in him.
