ENG vs IND | Twitter in awe as street-smart Rishabh Pant recovers quickly after failed shot

Rishabh Pant has always been seen as a maverick by cricket fans but the wicketkeeper-batter always has a method to his madness. And that was on display yet again during the third Test against England at Lord’s as he quickly recovered after a failed shot to prevent the ball from hitting the stumps.

‌With India starting the third day at a tricky 145/3 with 242 runs still behind England at Lord’s in the third Test, Rishabh Pant kicked off in his usual aggressive style. After scoring a boundary off the very first ball of Jofra Archer, the southpaw charged down the wicket to smoke the pacer over covers in the fourth ball of the same over.

However, India adopted a cautious approach after that, with only five runs coming in the next six overs. But KL Rahul helped India move on from that with two boundaries in the next two overs off Chris Woakes and Brydon Carse.

Pant also joined in as he stepped down the track to hit Woakes down the ground to start the over with a four. The wicketkeeper-batter, then, attempted another of his trademark shots, the rolling scoop off the fourth ball of the same over. He failed in his attempt to send a length ball around off-stump to the fine-leg fence, with the ball going past the bat to land on his box.

While Woakes appealed for an LBW, Pant, who was already far away from the stumps, displayed street smartness to continue his stay in the middle. The batter, in between his roll, was quick to bring his left leg to prevent the ball from ricocheting onto the stumps.

Twitter was impressed with Pant’s quick thinking as the batter brought the gymnast within him to the fore.
