ENG vs IND | Twitter on the edge as Shubman Gill bursts out at England openers for delaying proceedings

It is commonplace in Test cricket for players to delay proceedings to turn things in their favour but England openers crossed all limits during the Lord’s Test against India. From walking in slowly to backing off when the bowler was ready to deliver, the hosts earned the wrath of the players.

The Indian innings ended at 387 at the fag end of day three of the third test against England at Lord’s with KL Rahul scoring a patient century and Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja chipping in with valuable half centuries.

With the scores of both teams tied, it literally turned down to a one-inning affair with England having to bat out two overs in the remaining time till stumps. With Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley having struggled against Jasprit Bumrah and co in the first innings, they did not want to lose a wicket so late in the day. Especially with the England unit drained out after spending almost an entire day on the field under uncharacteristically hot conditions.

So they decided to slow things down, taking their time to get ready and take guard again. Shubman Gill and the Indian team were irked as the pair strolled down the long room into the turf almost two minutes late. India still could have sent down two overs but for Crawley’s needless back-off just as Bumrah was about to deliver the third ball of the first over.

Shubman Gill rushed to the duo, swearing at them unceremoniously with the other players surrounding the batters. Siraj was also seen exchanging words with Ben Duckett, with Crawley calling for the physio a ball later. As a result of all this, India could bowl only one over with England openers ending at 2/0.

Twitter was on the edge as the entire drama unfolded in the space of six balls before stumps were drawn.
