Cricket rarely sees players coming together but the WTC 2025 Final at Lord’s was witness to some hilarious moments when Keshav Maharaj dashed into Alex Carey. The Proteas spinner, in a bid to complete a quick single, jumped over the stumps to dash into the Aussie keeper who was collecting the ball.

‌South Africa had a good start to day two after being reduced to 43/4 in reply to Australia’s 212 on the first day of the World Test Championship 2025 final at Lord’s on Thursday. With the Proteas losing just one wicket and adding 78 runs in the first session, it looked like it would go past the Australian total in the next.

But the South African batting quickly unravelled in the second session as they were reduced from 126/5 to 126/7 with the Australian skipper Pat Cummins accounting for both Kyle Verreynne and Marco Jansen in the third over post-lunch. With new batter Keshav Maharaj looking to build a partnership with the well-set David Bedingham, it was advantage Australia as the defending champions looked to wipe off the tail.

With Nathan Lyon bowling from the other end, Bedingham went for a quick single after a gentle drive to a delivery outside off. Maharaj sprinted to the batting end to beat the throw of the fielder placed at mid-off. And while scampering across the turf he displayed his athletic ability as he jumped over the timber but landed straight on Alex Carey who was ready to whip the bails after collecting the throw.

The Australian wicketkeeper looked in visible pain as he was caught by Maharaj’s spikes but the batter was quick to apologise after stamping the stumps on his way to land on his knees. Twitter was in splits as it enjoyed the 100m hurdles from Maharaj who displayed his athletic ability apart from tweaking the ball.
