ENG vs IND | Twitter in splits as Jadeja exalts in Gaffaney's face after India win ball-change battle

The Duke's ball has become a major talking point during English Tests off late with the red cherry often going soft before expected, and the following change in ball bringing about a dramatic change in fortunes. India were hunting for the same in Leeds on Tuesday, and duly celebrated once achieved.

India had their tail up through the first hour of Day 5 at Headingley as England's opener Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett walked out to chase the remaining 350 runs and begin the series on a winning note. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj produced riveting spells to give away just 27 runs in the first 10 overs of the morning, but the breakthrough kept eluding them as the hosts kept ticking ahead. The tables turned once Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur came in to replace the premier Indian pace duo, as a slew of loose deliveries allowed the Three Lions to break the shackles and further stamp their authority on the game by going past the 100-run mark before Lunch.

The only trick the visitors seemed to have left up their sleeve was demand a change in balls, given how the Dukes had failed to swing even under overcast skies. The leadership group of Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and KL Rahul were right upto the task since play began as they kept hounding umpires Chris Gaffaney and Paul Reiffel with the request, but the officials kept using the ball gauge to showcase how the Dukes was still in perfect playing condition. it was not until the start of the 28th over, with Ravindra Jadeja waiting on top of his mark, that the ball finally failed to go through a hoop and a ball change was issued.

Pant was ecstatic as the stump mics caught him yelling with joy but the reaction was not up to scratch in comparison to Jadeja's, who clenched his fist and exalted right in Gaffaney's face to even leave the umpire laughing.
