With de Silva fired up after getting the wicket, the off-spinner was not impressed with Shadman Islam playing without a helmet. The Bangladesh opener had opted for a cap with spin being introduced from both sides very early into the match.
With Shadman on strike, de Silva fired in a bouncer off the fourth ball of the 17th over and the batter quickly took evasive action. He ran in from his short run-up like a medium pacer and aimed for the batter’s head.
Wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis was also caught by surprise as he jumped full length to collect the ball with one hand in what was an excellent effort. The slip fielder, who was already in motion in anticipation of chasing the ball, ended up kicking the helmet.
The Sri Lanka captain stared at the batter gesturing him to get a helmet with a wry smile. Shadman, who was still in shock, quickly obliged and signalled towards the dressing room for a helmet and Twitter was relieved with the batter’s narrow escape.
