West Indies skittled out Australia for 180 before being reduced to 57/4 after the first day’s play of the first Test in Barbados. Jayden Seales picked up 5/60 while Shamar Joseph continued his good show against the Aussies with a four-wicket haul as pacers accounted for all 14 wickets in the day.

‌West Indies started their new World Test Championship campaign in style as they bowled out Australia for 180 in just over two sessions on the first day of the first Test at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. Pacer Jayden Seales was the pick among the host’s bowlers with a fiery spell of 5/60 with Shamar Joseph being equally impressive dismissing the top three batters in his four-wicket haul.  However, the visitors bounced back from a below-par batting performance to reduce the Windies to 57/4 at the close of play.

Opting to bat first, Australia got off to a shaky start as they lost opener Sam Konstas, trapped in front of the wicket by Joseph, in the fourth over of the day for just three. Though Usman Khawaja held one end up, he kept losing partners at the other with Joseph and Seales sending back Cameron Green and Josh Inglis for single-digit scores to reduce the Aussies to 22/3. However, Khawaja found a perfect ally in Travis Head, who top-scored for the visitors in his typical aggressive fashion. But once Khawaja was dismissed three runs short of his half-century, the Aussie batting unravelled quickly to move from 111/3 to 143/8. Skipper Pat Cummins took the team past the 150-run mark with his entertaining cameo of 28 from 18 balls. Head, who hit nine boundaries during his knock of 59 from 78 balls, was the only half-centurion for the visitors while Joseph continued to impress against the Aussies with figures of 4/46.

But West Indies could not carry the momentum of their bowling show into their batting as both openers Kraigg Brathwaite and John Campbell were dismissed by Mitchell Starc by the seventh over with the score reading only 16. Though Keacy Carty and Brandon King tried to rebuild the home side’s batting with a 36-run stand, Australia ended the day on a high with two quick wickets to put the Windies in a spot of bother at 57/4 at the close of play.
