Watch, MLC 2025 | Tanveer Sangha wins Aussie tussle as he cleans up well-set Maxwell with a beauty

There is no better feeling for a bowler to go through the defences of a batter and hear the sound of timber. Leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha experienced that when he castled his senior Australian mate and dangerous batter Glenn Maxwell with a beauty during a Major League Cricket 2025 game in Dallas.

‌Washington Freedom notched up their fifth consecutive win in the Major League Cricket 2025 season with a five-wicket win over Los Angeles Knight Riders in a high-scoring thriller at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on Friday. Mitchell Owen scored a 16-ball 43 while skipper Glenn Maxwell made 42 off 23 balls as WSF successfully chased 214 with the action going to the last ball of the contest. Earlier in the day, Andre Fletcher scored a blistering century to power LAKR to 213/4 after being put into bat first. The West Indies batter smashed six sixes and seven fours to top-score in the game with 104 off 60 balls but LAKR skipper Jason Holder’s dropped catch off the last ball meant Fletcher’s ton went in vain.

After Mitchell Owen’s boundary-hitting cameo for WSF during the powerplay, skipper Maxwell carried the momentum forward as he smashed two sixes and a four in a 19-run over off Andre Russell as the target came down to 63 off the last seven overs. The Australian all-rounder was sitting pretty at 41 off 21 balls and looking good for his first fifty this season as his younger compatriot Tanveer Sangha came on to bowl the next over.

With a wicket already in the first ball and just three runs conceded Maxwell tried to go big in the last ball of the over. The leg-spinner bowled a googly that pitched on short of a length before going into Maxwell. The batter took the bait as he went for a wild heave targeting the mid-wicket boundary.

However, the ball glided through after pitching and kept a tad low as well going through the gate to disturb the furniture. Maxwell could not believe what just happened as he sat on one knee in disappointment.

Sangha was happy that he outfoxed the senior batter in an all-Australian tussle but realised that he was fortunate enough too as he acknowledged the low bounce with a smile. Nonetheless, it was a crucial breakthrough that came at an important time which was clear from wicketkeeper Unmukt Chand’s celebration as he rushed to the bowler before exchanging high-fives and a hug.

Through the gate!
