‌WPL | Twitter blames oblivious Deepti reject second run as Voll fails to become WPL’s maiden centurion

Modern cricketers tend to prioritise the team’s goals over personal milestones more often than not. Nevertheless, a worthy milestone is always the icing on the cake to a player’s endeavours, and Georgia Voll was on the verge of reaching a similar emotion if not for her team captain’s denial.

After being put to bat first by Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Smriti Mandhana, UP Warriorz openers Grace Harris and Georgia Voll initiated a carnage against the opposition bowlers. After piling up 70 runs inside the powerplay, Voll looked to convert his fifty into a hundred. As the game progressed to the final stages of the innings, Voll was on the verge of becoming the first-ever WPL centurion if not for Deepti’s careless work.

On the last ball of the 20th over, Charlie Dean bowled a fuller one at the stumps that Voll, on 98*, mistimed towards long on. As the fielder from the deep steamed in with a throw, Voll’s attempt to complete a second run was barred by her team captain. Deepti seemed in two minds for the second run, sending Voll back to the crease from the halfway mark of the pitch. Irrespective of that, she was caught a touch short of reaching the crease at the striker’s end, resulting in a last-ball dismissal. The Twitterverse was vividly furious at Deepti’s queer act to not risk for her teammate’s hundred, and labelled it as a ‘selfish act’.

 Whttttt!!
