RCB vs CSK | Twitter goes wild as drama unfolds with Dewald Brevis failing to review his dismissal on time

Crucial decisions from umpires in a high-octane match can go a long way in deciding its outcome and it was evident on Saturday again with Dewald Brevis getting out to a howler. The South African batter, however, was late to review the decision and the umpires forced him out of the field amid drama.

‌CSK got off to a strong start in response to RCB’s 213/5 on the back of Ayush Mhatre’s brilliant half-century with the young opener putting on a game-changing partnership of 114 off just 64 balls with Ravindra Jadeja. With 43 required from the last four overs and eight wickets in hand, CSK were primed to go the distance but Lungi Ngidi turned the match on its head dismissing Mhatre with the first ball of the 17th over.

With the match sitting on the knife edge, Dewald Brevis was given out LBW off the very first ball he faced from his countryman. In what looked like going down the leg, the Protean batter completed a double before having a quick word with his partner to signal the review. But drama unfolded as the umpires refused to take his call reminding him that he was out of time.

But Brevis stood his ground and Jadeja vehemently argued with the umpires but to no avail as there was no sight of the timer on the big screen. With RCb players also charging in, it lit up the already heated environment. The batter had to walk back but he made his displeasure clear to the fourth umpire as he crossed the rope and Jadeja gave a mouthful to the on-field umpires.

The Twitterverse was not pleased with the umpire’s decision at first and then the drama that unfolded as it affected CSK’s chances in a big way.

Why?
