IPL | Twitter reacts as Parag’s two-year-old tweet ages like fine wine with five sixes off Moeen Ali

There’s no better feeling than seeing a confident old tweet turn into reality. That’s exactly what happened with Riyan Parag, who smashed five successive sixes off Moeen Ali against Kolkata Knight Riders, taking fans back to his 2023 tweet where he had boldly declared he would hit four in a row.

‌In response to Kolkata Knight Riders' 206/4, Rajasthan Royals had a dreadful start as Vaibhav Suryavanshi and debutant Kunal Rathore were dismissed in the first two overs. At 9/2, the visitors were under immense pressure, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag at the crease. However, they responded with composure and counter-attacked effectively. Parag sparked the recovery, lifting the score to 37/2 by the fourth over, and Jaiswal joined in, guiding the Royals to 59/2 at the end of the powerplay. But momentum shifted again as Jaiswal and Rathore both departed soon after, leaving Rajasthan in a vulnerable position. Varun Chakaravarthy then tightened the screws, picking up two key wickets—Dhruv Jurel and Wanindu Hasaranga—in the eighth over, tilting the game back in Kolkata’s favour. Despite the setbacks, Parag showed remarkable resilience. He brought up a gritty 27-ball fifty and then unleashed mayhem in the 13th over, smashing Moeen Ali for five consecutive sixes in a jaw-dropping display of power.

It began with a full delivery on the pads. Parag whipped it effortlessly over square leg for a 74-metre six. The next ball, tossed up wide outside off, was patiently waited on before being launched over long off for a 90-metre hit. The crowd erupted as Parag, now brimming with confidence, got down on one knee and slog-swept the third delivery behind square for another massive six. Moeen looked visibly rattled, and his next delivery—a back-of-length ball outside off—was smashed over deep mid-wicket, striking the MVP car stationed beyond the ropes. The carnage didn’t stop there. On the final ball, Moeen went full and wide again, but Parag reached out, got under it, and flat-batted it straight over long off for his fifth six in five balls. The Twitterverse exploded in awe, lauding Parag’s raw power and mental toughness as he dismantled Moeen Ali in brutal fashion.
