SL-W vs IND-W | Twitter impressed with Jemimah Rodrigues’ acrobatics even after India closes the door on Sri Lanka

Cricketers often take things easy once the game reaches a foregone conclusion, but Jemimah Rodrigues proved a refreshing exception during the ODI tri-series 2025 final. With Sri Lanka needing 126 runs in 49 balls, Jemimah produced a diving effort to deny an easy boundary and saved two runs.

‌India registered a gigantic 342/7 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday on the back of Smriti Mandhana’s stroke-filled 116 off 101 balls. Sri Lanka had a tough task after losing opener Hasini Perera in the third ball of the innings and lost their way though skipper Chamari Athapaththu came up with a fighting half-century.

With wickets falling at regular intervals, Sri Lanka were reduced to 192/7 at the end of the 38th over and the match was nothing but a foregone conclusion. And then with 126 runs to get from 49 balls, Jemimah produced a stunning effort at the mid-wicket boundary.

Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur went to her part-timers for giving them some exposure and Harleen Deol was introduced in the 42nd over. The spinner, after conceding two fours already in the over, looked to avoid another as she delivered a flighted delivery outside off-stump.

Anushkha Sanjeevani swept the ball towards the square leg fence but Jemimah was not someone to let it go easily as she sprinted to her right from deep mid-wicket. The dynamic fielder put in a last minute dive to stop the ball and relayed it to Shree Charani who came in from deep square leg. The Sri Lanka batters, who initially thought the ball would reach the fence, had to hurry getting a couple.

Twitter was quick to applaud Jemimah’s acrobatic effort, despite the situation of the match, that saved two runs for her team.
