DC vs GT | Twitter in splits as Gill left red-faced after desperate review to try dispatch centurion Rahul

Desperate times call for desperate measures and when a batter like KL Rahul is in full-flow, things barely get any worse for a bowling captain. Shubman Gill was thus feeling the heat in Delhi on Sunday and was forced by his bowler Mohammed Siraj to go upstairs, even when there was no reason to.

Delhi Capitals set the Gujarat Titans a daunting 200 to chase at the Arun Jaitley Stadium after Shubman Gill won the toss and asked the hosts to bat first. KL Rahul played the wrecker-in-chief for the men in red and blue with his first century for the franchise and fifth overall in the tournament, his 65-ball 112 laded with 14 boundaries and four maximums to make up well over half his team's total in a proper one-man show. The opener, pushed to the top of the order for the second time in IPL 2025 following Karun Nair's dropping, began relatively sedatively as he took 35 balls to bring up his half-century but boy did he pick up once the second half of the innings arrived. Three boundaries on the trot in the 14th over against Sai Kishore were followed by three more and a maximum across the last two overs, one of which even managed to leave a buckling GUjarat Tittans ashamed and humiliated at their poor decision making.

Mohammed Siraj was handed the duty of bowling the final over and began with a well-directed yorker at Rahul, who had pre-empted the delvery and already moved across hoping to scoop the white rock over the keeper's head. However, the ball reverse swing ever so slightly to make Rahul play down the wrong line and took a thick inside edge to rush past the stumps on its way to the fine leg boundary. Absurdly, Siraj went up roaring in appeal even as the umpire signalled a four, who like all others on the field paid little head to the pacer. Neverthtless, the Indian quick was insistent and forced Gill to go upstairs for a review who quietly complied.

Yet, as was expected, the replays clearly showed a big deflection off Rahul's bat and the TV umpire did not even require ultra-edge to make up hi mind, thus setting Twitterati ablaze with laughter.
