The Indian Premier League has a new venue for the 2025 final locked in with Narendra Modi Stadium emerging as the favourite option amongst BCCI's shortlist of venues. The summit clash was originally slated to take place at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, as has been the tradition for the defending champions in the tournament, but increased cross-border tensions with Pakistan and a subsequent nine-day hiatus has forced the authorities to alter their plans. Ahmedabad is also expected to host Qualifier 2 on June 1, ahead of the title encounter on June 3. The other two playoff games -- Qualifier 1 (May 29) and the Eliminator -- will meanwhile be hosted at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur.
The BCCI when releasing its revamped schedule ahead of season resumption had stated the playoff venues would be revealed at a later date and an official announcement is still pending. The initial plan was to host the first two play-off games in Hyderabad after the Sunrisers finished runners-up in 2024, before heading to the City of Joy. However, the late changes mean Mullanpur's game tally from the season will go from four to six given Punjab Kings also use Dharamsala as an alternative home venue.
Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings thus face the prospect of playing a home final with both teams already qualified for the playoffs alongwith Royal Challengers Bengaluru, with Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals still in battle for the fourth playoff spot. The Titans already had the opportunity of playing for the trophy at home in 2023, when the reserve day had to be used after rain disrupted proceedings, and in an all-time classic Ravindra Jadeja got Chennai Super Kings over the line on the final ball to hand the Whistle Podu Army their fifth championship.
