In what might be MS Dhoni’s last match for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, fans turned out in numbers to watch the dead rubber against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. But to their despair, they could not watch their idol in action as Dewald Brevis scored a whirlwind fifty to steal the limelight.

‌After winning the toss and opting to bat in their last match of the Indian Premier League 2025 against Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings got off to an excellent start at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. Young opener Ayush Mhatre smashed 28 runs in Arshad Khan’s first over to signal the side’s intent with Devon Conway and Urvil Patel taking over.

Conway and Urvil added 63 runs off just 34 balls for the second wicket to take the side past the 100-run mark in the ninth over. CSK were sitting pretty at 163/4 after 15 overs to notch a big total but the fans were eagerly waiting for their idol to enter the arena and it was the perfect setting for the finisher to leave a lasting memory in what might be his last match for them.

But Dewald Brevis had other plans as he smashed the bowlers all around the park to reach his fifty, off just 19 balls, in the penultimate over. With Jadeja also looking well set, the fans were getting anxious with every passing ball. Brevis failed their hopes with a huge six of the penultimate ball and took guard for the last delivery.

With MS Dhoni padded up and standing in front of the stairs to the dressing room, Twitteratti stood on the edge hoping for a miracle to see him swing the bat for one last time. But Brevis was out in the last ball of the innings as the CSK skipper climbed up to get ready for his wicketkeeping duties.
