ENG-W vs WI-W | Twitter impressed as England put in clinical performance against West Indies to complete whitewash

‌Opting to bowl first, West Indies had an excellent start with left-arm spinner Zaida James cleaning up Danni Wyatt-Hodge with the first ball of the innings. With Sophia Dunkley also departing the fifth over bowled by Hayley Matthews, England huffed and puffed its way to 24/2 at the end of the powerplay. Skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt and former captain Heather Knight added 48 runs for the third wicket in 39 balls to bring the innings back on track. And Amy Jones, who came in after Sciver-Brunt’s dismissal, pushed the scoring rate with 17-ball 22. The pair added 42 runs in quick time to take England past the 100-run mark in the 15th over. Knight accelerated her innings towards the end as England ended their innings at 144/5 with the former skipper remaining unbeaten on 66 off 47 balls, her eighth half-century in WT20Is. For West Indies, skipper Hayley Matthews was the top performer with a spell of 3/32 in four overs.

The Windies also started the chase on the wrong foot with pacer Lauren Bell castling Qiana Joseph off the first ball of the innings. Though the other opener Matthews translated her bowling performance onto her batting, she did not get enough support as West Indies lost wickets at regular intervals. Her 46-run partnership with Shabika Gajnabi for the fourth wicket gave a glimmer of hope for the visitors. During the association, Matthews also got to her 17th WT20I fifty, off 41 balls, in the 13th over. But left-arm spinner Linsey Smith turned the match with two wickets in the 17th over and the game reached a foregone conclusion when Lauren Bell returned to dismiss Matthews in the next over. The West Indies innings ended at 127/8 with their skipper top scoring for the side with a 54-ball 71 while Bell, Em Arlott, Charlie Dean and Linsey Smith all finished with two wickets to complete the whitewash.
