Mourinho hails United fans : I have never seen people like this

While Antonio Conte's Chelsea were ripping apart Manchester United on Sunday, angry away supporters at the Stamford Bridge shouted chants asking Jose Mourinho to leave Manchester United, leaving the Red Devils boss grim-faced on the touchline. However, the manager was overwhelmed by the home crowd's support at the Old Trafford on Wednesday as United put their last week's embarrassment aside to win the EFL Cup tie 1-0 against cross-town rivals Manchester City.

"We were on a good run of results, but it was a big defeat," Mourinho told the television reporters after the match.

"(They are) numbers that the history of this club doesn't deserve and when I'm in a club my heart belongs to the fans and I felt deeply for them. The reality is that I never had people like these ones,” he added.

At the end of the match, the Portuguese manager made a gesture of apology to United's fans at the end -- making a '4-0' symbol with his fingers, then lowering his head to indicate that he is sorry for the past week's result.

"We lost 4-0 and they were supportive. Today the stadium was full of real support and it looks like the love people have for the club is bigger than bad results, bigger than three bad seasons.

"We must give something back. The players gave everything, but even if we'd lost the feeling was fantastic because the players showed they really care and they fought for the fans," he said.

The Old Trafford will host 14th-placed Burnley on Saturday, October 29th in the Premier League.
