Michael Carrick remains confident in Middlesbrough play-off push, despite recent setbacks. Trailing Lampard Coventry by three points with four games left, Carrick stresses the importance of focusing on the present. With 60 points, he believes Boro still have a realistic chance and urges his squad to thrive under pressure in this crucial run-in.

After the latest round of Championship fixtures, Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick has sent a clear message about the club's play-off ambitions. With just four games remaining, Boro are three points behind Frank Lampard’s Coventry City, who were 17th when Lampard took over in November but have since climbed into the top six. Middlesbrough, once as high as fifth and as low as 13th this season, face a crucial clash against Plymouth Argyle on Good Friday.

Carrick emphasised the importance of focusing on the present, describing the final four fixtures as a "mini season." He acknowledged the inconsistency that has plagued their campaign, especially after a disappointing defeat at Millwall, but insisted belief remains strong. “It hasn’t cost us yet,” he said, urging his players to learn from their ups and downs and take the opportunity still in front of them.

Boro currently sit on 60 points, and while it's rare to reach the play-offs with fewer than 70, Carrick remains hopeful. He said winning all four games might be necessary but not guaranteed, as other teams are also likely to drop points. The final game is away to Coventry, which could be decisive. Carrick concluded by calling the current stage “normal” in terms of pressure and challenges, urging his squad to thrive under it.
