Robert Lewandowski is reportedly thinking about ending his international career if Poland fails to qualify for the 2026 FIFA Club World Cup. With 158 appearances and 85 goals for his country, the striker may step away as Poland sit third in Group G. Poland will face the Netherlands and Finland in key upcoming qualifiers.

When the future of Poland’s footballing icon came into question, Robert Lewandowski once again found himself at the centre of national debate. The 36-year-old striker, with 158 caps and 85 goals for Poland, is reportedly contemplating international retirement. According to Polish journalist Bartosz Wlazlak, Lewandowski may hang up his international boots if Poland fails to qualify for the 2026 FIFA Club World Cup.

The decision comes amid Poland’s shaky qualifying campaign, where they currently sit third in Group G behind the Netherlands and Finland. Only the group winner earns direct qualification, while the second-placed side enters the playoffs. With two wins and one loss so far, Poland’s hopes remain alive but face stiff challenges ahead. Lewandowski had earlier withdrawn from international duty following a dispute with coach Michal Probierz. Although Probierz has now stepped down, doubts over Lewandowski’s long-term involvement remain.

The upcoming matches against the Netherlands and Finland in September are seen as crucial in shaping both Poland’s qualification hopes and Lewandowski’s decision. To guide the team forward, former national coach Adam Nawalka is expected to return. Having led Poland between 2013 and 2018, Nawalka’s familiarity with Lewandowski could prove vital in persuading him to stay and finish his international career on a high.
