Lionel Messi scored twice in Inter Miami’s 2-1 win over Nashville, extending his MLS record to five consecutive multigoal games. With 16 goals in 16 matches, he now leads the Golden Boot race. His first was a free-kick, while the second came from intercepting a pass. Miami climbed to fifth in the standings.
When the football world thought Lionel Messi had done it all, the Argentine superstar added yet another chapter to his remarkable career. On July 13, 2025, Messi scored twice in Inter Miami's 2-1 win over Nashville SC, extending his record streak to five consecutive MLS matches with multiple goals. He now has 16 goals in 16 games this season, tied with Sam Surridge for the league lead.
Messi opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a stunning left-footed free kick, his 69th career goal from a direct free kick and his sixth for Miami. He added his second in the 62nd minute after intercepting a pass from Nashville's goalkeeper Joe Willis and calmly finishing past him. This performance marked his first five-game multigoal streak in league play since 2012 with Barcelona.
In between Messi’s two goals, Hany Mukhtar briefly equalised for Nashville with a well-timed finish from an Andy Nájar cross. Nashville had been on a five-match winning run and sat third in the Supporters’ Shield standings. Inter Miami, now fifth, continue to push for back-to-back titles. With three games in hand due to Club World Cup duties, Messi’s leadership and form remain the driving force behind Miami’s strong campaign.
