After the struggles of recent seasons, Roma has taken a bold step by signing 20-year-old Irish striker Evan Ferguson from Brighton. The deal is structured as a €3 million loan with a €37 million option to buy, showing Roma’s belief in his long-term potential. Ferguson made an impressive start to his career, debuting in the Premier League at 16 and scoring 6 league goals the next season in under 1,000 minutes, along with 4 more in domestic cups.

In the 2023-24 season, he added another 6 goals before suffering an ACL injury in April that halted his momentum. He returned late the following August but struggled to regain form, managing just 1 goal in 246 Premier League minutes. A loan spell at West Ham did little to help, with Ferguson making 8 appearances but failing to score.

Now at Roma, Ferguson has the chance to revive his career under manager Gian Piero Gasperini, known for developing young talent and promoting attacking football. However, with Artem Dovbyk currently the first-choice striker, Ferguson must fight for playing time. If he adapts well and rediscovers his scoring touch, the €37 million buy option could turn out to be a smart investment for the Giallorossi.
