In the latest high-profile move of the summer, Real Madrid have reportedly secured the signing of Argentine wonderkid Franco Mastantuono from River Plate. The 17-year-old forward, regarded as one of the most promising young talents in world football, has agreed to a contract with Los Blancos that runs until 2031 and includes a staggering €1 billion release clause.
Madrid triggered his €45 million release clause, which will be paid in three equal instalments of €15 million. Despite their efforts to bring him in before the FIFA Club World Cup, Mastantuono will remain with River Plate for the tournament and is expected to officially join Real Madrid when he turns 18 on August 14. So far in 2025, Mastantuono has scored seven goals and recently made his senior debut for Argentina and his performances have caught the attention of several top European clubs, but Madrid has won the race.
He is set to become the club’s third signing this summer, following Dean Huijsen and Trent Alexander-Arnold. River Plate will face Urawa Red Diamonds, Monterrey, and Inter Milan in the Club World Cup, with a potential knockout stage clash against Real Madrid looming if both teams progress from their groups.
