French Open 2016 | Hingis-Paes advance to second round

After a disappointing quarterfinal exit at the Australian Open in January this year, 2015 US Open champions Leander Paes and Martina Hingis started the second grand slam of the year on a positive note by registering a first round win. The Indo-Swiss pair looked in good rhythm from the start and pocketed the first set 6-4 against Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Robert Farah. The German-Colombian pair broke the 2015 US Open champions twice, but struggled to keep up with their superior opponents before surrendering the set.

With the Indo-Swiss pair leading by a set, Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Robert Farah looked lost in the second set and allowed Leander Paes and Martina Hingis to break them four times in the set. The Indo-Swiss pair also dominated the first serves and won 68% of them to take the set 6-4.

Leander Paes and Martina Hingis will next face the winner of the match between the fourth-seeded pair of Yaroslava Shvedova and Florin Mergea and Lucie Hradecka and Marcin Matkowski.
