SportsCafe Desk

As per Artificial Intelligence, Guyana Amazon Warriors will emerge victorious at the Providence Stadium against Central Districts. Warriors skipper Imran Tahir and veteran all-rounder Moeen Ali were the star performers as they won the game by six wickets with 10 balls to spare.

‌Pitch and Weather

The surface at the Providence Stadium was on the drier side, which helped the spinners a lot as they got great grip and turn on the wicket as the game progressed. The batters had to battle hard to score runs in the match.
Though the conditions were cloudy for a short period, there was no rain that was experienced by the players who enjoyed a full game of cricket. There was a high level of humidity throughout the game, which tested the endurance of the players.

Toss

Central Districts won the toss and elected to bat first.

Match Report

It was Central Districts skipper Tom Bruce who won the toss and chose to bat. The CD openers Will Young and Dane Cleaver started well with a cautious approach at the start on what seemed to be a sticky surface. The two put on a brilliant partnership of 58 runs. However, things took a massive U-turn when Warriors skipper Imran Tahir and Gudakesh Motie put the breaks on the scoring and took wickets at regular intervals. While Motie was the one who dismissed Young on a score of 42, Tahir was the one who got the game back in control with the important scalps of Cleaver, Dean Foxcroft, and Bruce. While things were looking glum, a 10-ball cameo by Curtis Heaphy made sure they got to a decent total of 153/9 in the end.

Unlike the Stags, the Warroirs got off to a flyer with Johnson Charles and Rahmanullah Gurbaz taking the attack to the bowlers. The duo scored 56 runs in the powerplay and setup a decent platform for the chase. Despite the two quick strikes from Blair Tickner, Moeen Ali decided to take on the spinners and played an incredible knock of 41 off just 27 deliveries to put his side in a comfortable position. His knock included three boundaries and two towering sixes off District’s star bowler Ajaz Patel. In the end, Dwaine Pretorius and Romario Shepherd made sure the total was chased down with 10 balls to spare.

Player of the Match

While there were a lot of great performances in the game, it was GAW skipper Imran Tahir who stole the show with his iconic spell of 3/19 and led from the front. He was rightfully adjudged the player of the match for his incredible display of leg-spin bowling.
