Players egging on fans to raise decibel levels in live sport is nothing common but England captain Ben Stokes regretted his actions during the Lord’s Test against India. As he was trying to gather support from teammates and the home crowd, the Indian fans responded to his calls with loud cheers.

‌Starting the final day of the Lord’s Test at 58/4, India lost three more wickets to slip to 82/7, giving England the upper hand in the third Test. But Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy dug in deep to try and prevent the visitors from slipping further.

The pair added 17 runs in 36 balls as they kept the England quicks at bay, not allowing them further inroads. Pacer Brydon Carse sent in a rising delivery targeted at the southpaw, which he innocuously gloved.

As the ball fell short of first slip, England skipper Ben Stokes, who was fielding in close cordon, tried to egg on his teammates and the home crowd to raise the noise levels. But the countless Indian fans, who turned up to support their side at the iconic venue, responded swiftly to Stokes’ call.

There was a sudden rise in the decibel levels with fans shouting ‘India, India…..’ to the shock of the England captain. Twitter was in splits as Ben Stokes ended in an embarrassing position, wrongly triggering the Indian fans.
