Delhi Capitals have named Mustafizur Rahman as replacement for Jake Fraser-McGurk for the remainder of IPL 2025 with the Australian becoming the second foreign player to withdraw from the tournament. The replacement comes after the IPL had tweaked its rules relating to temporary signing of players.

‌Delhi Capitals announced Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman as a replacement for Jake Fraser-McGurk for their remaining matches in IPL 2025. The left-arm pacer will join Delhi with the Australian becoming the second foreign player to withdraw from this year’s tournament after Jamie Overton. The competition is set to restart on Saturday, May 17 after it was initially suspended last week following cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.

Mustafizur, who made his IPL debut with Sunrisers Hyderabad in their victorious campaign in 2016, has played a total of 57 matches in the competition and has a tally of 61 wickets at an average of 28.88 and an economy of 8.14. After representing Chennai Super Kings in the last season picking up 14 wickets from nine matches, he is back with his former franchise Delhi Capitals for whom he played 10 matches in IPL 2022 and 2023.

Fraser-McGurk was acquired by the Capitals for INR 9 crore using their right to match option in  the IPL 2025 auction after an impressive first season with 330 runs at an unbelievable strike rate of 234.04. However, the opener has been unable to match his exploits from the last season aggregating a meagre 55 runs from six outings this year getting dropped after that.

Delhi were able to rope in the left-arm seamer after IPL had informed all the franchises that they are making some tweaks to their already existing player replacement rules. As per the original rule, all teams can replace players who are injured or ill only up to or during the 12th match of a season.

But for this year the League has given a slight leeway to teams allowing them to name replacements even if they have played 12 games, keeping in mind any withdrawals of foreign players when the tournament resumes. They, however, also made it clear that teams naming replacement after the IPL’s suspension this year will not be able to retain those players and they will enter the auction pool ahead of IPL 2026.
