Manchester United begin the search for a new technical director

SportsCafe Desk

Manchester United have decided to turn their attention towards appointing a technical director for the club. After completing the transfer window business, in which the club signed three players, The United board now feels that signing a director is of utmost importance for the club.

Manchester United initially intended to appoint a director before the club could name a successor to take over after Jose Mourinho's tenure at the club ended. However, the club have so far been unable to zero in on a choice and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had to make do with the existing structure. That saw the Red Devils struggle to complete moves for more than three players, with them finding offloading players tough as well.

However, in the end, the club did end up bringing in around 140 million worth of players, but things are changing reports the BBC. The report adds that when Solskjaer was confirmed as the permanent manager on 28 March, the role of the director would be filled before the start of the new 2019/20 season. Former United players Darren Fletcher, Mike Phelan and Rio Ferdinand had all been spoken to, by Red Devil’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward a few weeks before.

However, further contacts between the parties have not been reported but it is believed that the two sides are in touch. But the BBC adds that Manchester United have not made any offers to anyone as of yet and the role will not involve duties related to transfers.
