After the match against Botafogo on June 1, 2025, Brazilian football star Neymar Jr. has tested positive for COVID-19, as confirmed by Santos FC. Neymar began showing symptoms on Thursday, following which he was immediately withdrawn from team training. Medical tests later confirmed the infection. The 33-year-old is now under home isolation and receiving treatment as per medical advice.

Santos has not yet confirmed how long he will be sidelined due to the virus. Neymar was already set to miss Santos’ upcoming game against Fortaleza on June 12 due to a one-match suspension after receiving a red card in the Botafogo clash on June 2. This match will be Santos’ final fixture before the Brazilian Serie A pauses for the FIFA Club World Cup, scheduled from June 14 to July 13 in the United States.
