After the conclusion of a successful 2024-25 season, FC Barcelona are preparing for a future without their star striker, Robert Lewandowski, whose contract expires in 2026. The Polish forward, who will turn 37 soon, is expected to leave at the end of next season, possibly for a move to Saudi Arabia. In response, Barcelona are already planning ahead, looking to strengthen their attacking options beyond the current campaign.
The club has shown strong interest in Athletic Club winger Nico Williams and has reportedly agreed on personal terms with him. However, the biggest long-term target appears to be Atlético Madrid’s Julian Alvarez. The Argentine forward had an outstanding debut season in Spain, scoring 29 goals and providing 8 assists after joining from Manchester City. Barcelona view Alvarez, valued at €100 million, as the ideal successor to Lewandowski and a key piece of their future under manager Hansi Flick.
Although Atlético have no intention of selling him at present, Barcelona sporting director Deco remains hopeful and is keeping a close eye on developments. While other options are being considered, Alvarez remains the top priority as the Blaugrana aim to maintain their attacking strength in the post-Lewandowski era.
