You can keep Digvesh Rathi out of the field but you cannot keep him out of the game in spirit. The mystery spinner's presence was felt against Gujarat Titans even with him missing due to suspension as Akash Singh made sure to bring out Digvesh's trademark celebration after Jos Buttler's wicket.
Gujarat Titans were left staring at a huge mountain to climb when the Lucknow Super Giants rode on the back of Mitchell Marsh's ton to set them 236 to chase, at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Thursday. TheĀ wicket of Sai Sudharsan in the powerplay made the task even more daunting, while Shubman Gill's departure in the eighth over all but handed the contest to the Super Giants. The only major threat that remained was Jos Buttler, with the Englishman's reputation of hunting down unwinnable games preceding him, andĀ an opening flourish of boundaries to race past 30 at a strike rate of over 200 seemed ominous. However, Akash Singh took it upon himself toĀ stop the bveteran in his tracks despiteĀ severely wounding his hand in his previous over, and followed it up with a worthy celebration to ensure the moment lives in history.
Akash steamed in on the third ball of the 10th over and delivered an inswinger from wide on the crease, that seemed to nip back in even further after pitching. Buttler, taken unawares by the angle and movement, tried to bring his bat down in time but failed the attempt as the Kookaburra snuck past himĀ to sound him a definitive death rattle. Akash was unsuprisingly ecstatic but amdist all the jubilation, the 23-year-oldĀ made sure to keep his teammate Digvesh Rathi in mind. The spinner, facing a one-match suspension after an altercation with Abhishek Sharma in the previous match saw his demerit points tally surpass the allowed limit, has made a name for himself in 2025 with tight bowling but moreso through a fierce notebook celebration that has since become infamous for being chided on the BCCI through fines and demerit points.
Thus, with Digvesh on the sidelines, Akash made sure the tradition was kept alive as he brought out the notebook and pointed towards the pavilion, much to the delight of Twitterati.
