Nine-time champion Rafael Nadal pulled out of the French Open on Friday after suffering an injury on his left wrist. Nadal had progressed to the third round of the tournament yesterday after a straight-sets win over Facundo Bagnis, and confirmed that he had played with an injection on the wrist.

The fourth-seed, who was scheduled to play Marcel Granollers on Saturday, confirmed his withdrawal from the tournament, and said that he played the last match after taking an injection.

"Yesterday I played with an injection.

“Yesterday evening I started to feel more and more pain and today I felt I could not move my wrist,” the 29-year-old told in a hastily arranged news conference on Friday, reported BBC.

"Nine times in my career I have been able to be healthy here in Paris and win this tournament.

"This is a tough moment and the toughest press conference I have ever had to give but it's not the end," Nadal added.

Nadal, who is a record nine-time winner at the Roland Garros, has won 200 of the 230 matches he has played in Grand Slams, and registered his 200th victory by defeating Facundo Bagnis yesterday.

Nadal, who has 14 Grand Slam titles, is tied with Pete Sampras for the second most slams of all-time behind Roger Federer, who has 17.
