MS Dhoni inspects Eden Gardens wicket ahead of Sri Lanka Test

While in Kolkata to shoot for a commercial with Kapil Dev, MS Dhoni checked the Eden Gardens pitch before the upcoming first Test match between India and Sri Lanka. Dhoni, who retired from the longest format of the game in 2014, was seen talking to the pitch curator Sujan Mukherjee yesterday.

Dhoni and Eden Gardens share a great relationship over the years and it was the very ground where the former Indian skipper had started rising into national consciousness through sublime performances for Bihar in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Despite the 2011 World Cup-winning captain retiring from the longest format of the game since his last match against Australia at the MCG in 2014, nothing has stopped him from coming to the iconic stadium, every once in a while. And yesterday, ahead of the first Test match between India and Sri Lanka that begins on November 16, Dhoni decided to take a look at the pitch that had been prepared for the match.

"Dhoni really appreciated the pitch preparation and wished us for the Test match," pitch curator Sujan Mukherjee said, reported PTI.

Dhoni was in Kolkata to shoot a commercial with Kapil and the duo spent the day playing cricket and were later joined by young players who they were happy to advise. The duo were later joined by yet another former captain the form of current CAB President Sourav Ganguly, who had given Arindam Sil, who is directing the advert, permission to use the stadium for the shoot.

"He (Dhoni) told them on how to play aggressively about the stance and all of this in the midst of the busy work. It's brilliant," Sil said.
